Question of the Week. What goes on beyond the doors of the mysterious New Rochelle venue on Main Street: Silkie's Saloon, an Intimate Nesting Place? Please deliver any eyewitness information to the management of this blog for further investigation.
I have no idea what the previous poster is trying to say regarding "baskets", but this may help explain: http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/pubs/states/newsrel/2003/nyc030303.html
Although 5 years old, the DoJ press release states, in part: "Police also executed search warrants at two New Rochelle taverns: Silkie's, located at 454 Main Street and the Galway Bay II at 77 Pelham Road. Ten individuals were arrested inside the bars. Cocaine, marijuana, a Joker Poker machine and cash ere seized at each location...Valerie Miceli, of New Rochelle, was also charged with Possession of a Gambling Device for her role in a similar gambling operation at Silkie's. The complaint alleges that on various days since January 2002, four individuals sold cocaine over the counter or in plain view at the two New Rochelle bars."
Apparently, "things are different" these days, but not sure how different. You'd probably need to go there every day for a year to find out the real story. Even then, do you really want to know?
The place is a dive. Over charged, light handed drinks, the place is usually empty with the false promise of people are supposed to be coming or you just missed hot guys or super model girls, and then when people are in there its deadbeats and coke addicts. Stay away from Silkie's and New Rochelle for that matter. Viva White Plains.
The last poster got it right. Would be great place if it weren't for the horrible music, lack of clientele, WAY OVERPRICED DRINKS and pushy, inconsiderate bartender/owner who insists on you purchasing them. Complete waste of time.
this place is nasty the owner looks like she's made up for Halloween all year long the people are deadbeats, drunks, coke, and pot heads the most active times in there is when the Hell's Angels guys stop by on their bikes its really lively then prob the only time.
First let me say I travel 100000 miles a year.I am in a different city every week. That means my meals and what social life I have is going out. I love finding that quaint place that isn't a franchised over duplicated establishment with its boring waiter and waitresses and customers that are anti social. Now about Silky. She is a holdout from the rock and roll days and is very nice very friendly and wants nothing more than her customers to have a great time and get to know each others name. She takes pictures and post them of you having fun in her saloon.(with your permission). She shows them on her bar screens as well as her website. This is a woman that reminds me of dolly parton with her flamboyant blonde hair and effervescent personality. I like her. My opinion of people that give her bad reviews had an agenda to fill. So she is not for everyone but I am yet to find that person or establishment. I have no agenda.I may never get the opportunity to grace her doors but I am so happy her regulars will have Silkys to frequent. Her pricing is very fair, the pour good and snack bar food for five bucks. You cannot go wrong trying it out... Randy

I moved to New Rochelle 6 months ago and I enjoy this place when i have the chance to go. the lady has drink specials and the drinks are poured perfectly. The baskets are delicious and the place has a cozy charm to it. Most of all it is CLEAN, which I have not experience often in New Rochelle Taverns. Seems like someone ANONYMOUS has a one track agenda to ruin someone which is sad since this is a very cool place to spend an evening alone watching TV or with friends. The lady there wants nothing but her patrons to have an enjoyable evening. I am happy to have a place like Silkie's in my new neighborhood.....
I went there a few times with my boyfriend, now ex boyfriend and Silkie was always accommodating with me. She got to know me a bit and she truly cares about people. Get to know her, talk to her for about 5 minutes, not about drinks or baskets but about real stuff and you'll find she is a complete sweetheart. She even had a birthday present waiting for me.
She does push drinks and does push her baskets but she's in business and one of the hardest working people I know.
Besides that, the place is super cute and fun. I miss that place and Silkie.
I leave lived in new Rochelle for eight years. Great little place. Clean. Comfortable. She does push the baskets but she is a business and you can say no. They're delicious to be honest and a deal. She opens at 8 and always stays open until 4. This is known and people can rely on her being there late at night which means the place is busy late at night. He has a juke box like most bars and its great. On certain nights people gather to watch a favorite tv show. All good. Yes there are nudes in the bathroom and cocks-roosters in the bar but that's part of the charm. There are other bars nearby that trash talk but what can you do. For some reason bar owners in new Rochelle feel they need to compete with each other ny bashing each other. Whatever. Everyone makes their way to silkies at one point or another and it's fun. Many return.

Two Words: "Silie's Baskets"!
Need I say more?

Guess I did need to say more.

I went there once at opening, so was empty.
Silie was nice and conversational and curious about me, which was nice. Place was interesting, kind of kitchy, funky, not bad at all.
Unfortunately her selling her $5 baskets to me and the other walk-ins was a bit too transparent.
My friends and I just went there. The sea hag told us "we just missed the hotties" by a couple minutes. Then said they would be back.
She was obsessed with us checking out a couple dumb porno pictures in the bathroom and her collection of roosters (c-cks).
It was time from my life I'll never get back..KEEP OUT!
